EP87 | SequelChat Review of VENOM

Venom hit theaters this October with Tom Hardy starring as Eddie Brock, a crusading reported who becomes bonded to an alien symbiote. Separated from Spider-Man continuity, Sony pictures sets Venom free to forge it's own path in the world of comic book movies, but is it a success? Join Adam, Colton and Jeramy as they dissect their experience in theaters with Venom watching the symbiotic duo enact their own brand of justice against an evil corporation.

The SequelChat crew talk Venom's comic book origins in the Marvel universe, how to properly pronounce Symbiote, debate the merits of the infamous restaurant scene and just how Sony should roll out their Spider-Centric cinematic universe. It's all here in this spirited podcast movie review of Venom.

EP86 | A Spaced Invaders Sequel | SequelQuest

October 4, 2018

EP86 | A Spaced Invaders Sequel

Prepare to laugh, Earth Scum! In 1990 Touchstone Pictures invaded movie theaters with Spaced Invaders, a family comedy starring Ariana Richards with out of this world ambitions. An eclectic crew of Martians arrive in small town Illinois thinking they are part of conquering force, but soon realize the transmission they heard was just a Halloween night broadcast of Orson Welles' infamous War of the Worlds radio broadcast. Hijinks ensue.

The film was a mainstay of video store shelves in the 90s, but failed to blow up the box office upon it's release. Now, nearly 30 years later, the SequelQuest crew thinks they are up to the challenge of creating a viable Spaced Invaders 2 with the help of a very special guest.

Join Adam, Jeff and Jeramy as they are piloted by romance author and sci-fi fan, "Commander" Sue London (www.bysuelondon.com) through the goofy fun and frantic action of this cult Halloween film in order to imagine a Spaced Invaders sequel. Discover the secrets of the Martian home world. Swoon at the budding romance between a special effects artist and a frisbee champion. And what does Howard The Duck have to do with all of this? Listen now and find out!

We interrupt this week's regularly scheduled episode of SequelQuest to bring you a special podcast presentation. Gawrsh, it's The 2 Goofs Podcast! So what is The 2 Goofs Podcast? So glad you asked. It's the 12 episode monthly limited series podcast where best friends, Adam and Jeff take you through their personal experiences of performing as costumed characters at Disneyland.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to put on a big plastic head and bring a legendary cartoon character to life professionally? In this special preview episode you'll discover how 2 high school friends who were raised on Disney cartoons and movies ended up entertaining visitors to the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, CA from 1999-2005 while dressed as Disney icons ranging from the loveable Goofy to the devious Jafar.

The guys also share stories of childhood visits to Disneyland, getting their weekday animation fix from The Disney Afternoon and even one titanic tale set inside the exclusive Club 33 where one of our hosts ran into Woody himself, Tom Hanks.

EP85 | A-Team Movie Sequel | SequelQuest

EP85 | A Team Movie Sequel | SequelQuest

We love it when a plan comes together. In 2010 the 1980's prime time hit The A-Team was adapted to the big screen and promised big action and big fun, but was unfortunately a big bomb at the box office. Even with the star power of Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, The A-Team movie just didn't connect with fans of blockbuster cinema.

SequelQuest loves a challenge as much as Mr. T loves gold chains and that's why Adam and Jeff along with returning guest, Carlin Trammel aka CT from the Nerd Lunch podcast decided to take on the mission of pitching an A-Team sequel that will knock the cigar right out of your mouth.

Hop into our custom van as we discuss our nostalgia for the original A-Team TV series and the mountain of merchandising that came with it's success, as well as a debate the merits of the big screen version that may deserve a second look.

So who will Hannibal, Face, B.A. and Murdock take on in The A-Team 2? The bad guys range from drug lords to ghosts from Hannibal's past but they all add up to trouble that gives our favorite group of highly skilled mercernaries a chance to strut their stuff.

While you won't have to "get on no plane", we're telling you to get "on the jazz" and listen to the podcast, Fool!

EP84 | Last Action Hero Sequel | SequelQuest

August 30, 2018

EP84 | Last Action Hero Sequel | SequelQuest

Missing this episode of SequelQuest would be a "Big Mistake" because we're picking upi the pieces of the failed Arnold Schwarzenegger film Last Action Hero from 1993. It's the tale of a young boy named Danny Madigan who is transported into the world of his favorite action hero for a fantasy adventure movie experience that very few people bought a ticket for.

This satire of 80s action films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Austin O'Brien, Charles Dance and many familiar Hollywood faces is 25 years old this year along with it's box office rival, Jurassic Park, but sadly no one is celebrating Jack Slater's movie milestone. No one that is, but the SequelQuest crew.

Join Adam, Jeff and Jeramy as they grab hold of Houdini's magic ticket to bring you three possible Last Action Hero sequel ideas. Will we follow the further adventures of Danny Madigan and Jack Slater as they serve villains cinematic justice? Perhaps a spin-off adventure with Ian McKellan as Death wandering the streets of Tinsel Town is more your speed. Maybe Jack Slater needs to be taught that representation matters as a young woman rewrites the action movie genre.

The action packed fun is all here in our latest podcast as we bring you Last Action Hero 2 in the often imitated, never duplicated SequelQuest style.

EP83 | A Napoleon Dynamite Sequel | SequelQuest

August 16, 2018

EP83 | A Napoleon Dynamite Sequel | SequelQuest

Napoleon Dynamite was a surprise comedy hit in 2004, introducing the world to a small town family of gosh-darn wacky characters. The director Jared Hess pulled upon his experiences growing up in rural Idaho in the 80s and extrapolated a hilarious cinematic experience. And though the writer-director has gone on to make other films, this little indie starring John Heder, Aaron Ruell, Efren Ramirez, John Gries, Diedrich Bader and Tina Majorino is surely his calling card.

The SequelQuest crew decided to accept the challenge from a listener and imagine a follow-up film that would bring audiences back to the surreal world of Preston, Idaho. So what mundane insanity could Adam, Jeff and Jeramy come up with for a Napoleon Dynamite 2? Get excited, because it’s totally SWEET!

Will it be a story of friendship torn asunder between Pedro and Napoleon? Could it be the tale of Kip and LaFawnda hitting the big time with an internet dating site? And how does an Idaho militant man get caught up in the madness?

Listen now to our ideas for a Napoleon Dynamite sequel, dang it!

EP82 | A Jurassic Park Sequel | SequelQuest

August 2, 2018

EP82 | A Jurassic Park Sequel | SequelQuest

In the 25 years since Jurassic Park roared into movie theaters, the Steven Spielberg movie franchise has managed to avoid extinction, even with the critically panned The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 films failing to live up to the legacy of the original. The franchise was recently re-imagined with the Jurassic World series of films, but what if they had gotten the band back together for a Jurassic Park 4?

That's what Jeramy and Adam set out to discover when they invited their own team of experts to return to Isla Nublar for this podcast and create an exciting new Jurassic Park sequelo the original trilogy. Fan favorite Judy returns to the show as she has for all of our Spielberg podcasts and also along for the tour is Forrest, most recently on our Spy Special episode.

The excitement comes hard and heavy as we explore the possibility of a spin-off featuring Dr. Henry Wu, a family film about a boy and his dinosaur set on a farm as well as a discovery of an abandoned experiment on the island that marks the shocking return of Samuel L Jackson's Ray Arnold to the universe.

Our Jurassic Park conversation is fun-filled as we learn which host hadn't watched any Jurassic Park film until this month and how the Raptor fighting gymnastics scene proves that representation matters to one of our guests. Our Jurassic Park 4 episode is jam-packed with dino-sized fun, so listen now!

EP81 | The Iron Giant Sequel | SequelQuest

July 19, 2018

EP81 | The Iron Giant Sequel | SequelQuest

Brad Bird’s first directorial outing, The Iron Giant has had a rocky road to getting its due from movie goers since its release in 1999. The story of a boy befriending a massive metal robot from outer space during the Cold War has gained a loyal following over the years, even resulting in a special edition release in 2015.

While star Vin Diesel has stated his desire to return for a sequel, Brad Bird has been less interested, stating that the film works well on its own. But fortune favors the bold and so the SequelQuest crew is picking up the dangling plot threads and spinning a whole new story for The Iron Giant 2.

Join Adam, Jeff and Jeramy as they dig deep into the origins of this animated Warner Brothers movie, it’s history on screen and get into the what ifs of this vast universe. Will we learn the origin of the giant? What becomes of Hogarth after his friend sacrifices himself to save the town? Does E.T. look like a frog? All these questions and more will be answered in the latest episode of SequelQuest.

July 4, 2018

 EP80 | A Patriotic Special: Independence Day/Red Dawn Sequels | SequelQuest

This 4th of July we are exercising our right to podcast by bringing you an action packed show featuring sequels and prequels to films that celebrate freedom in the good ol’ USA.

First the SequelQuest crew practices free speech by digging into what makes a film patriotic and which movies make us want to start waving old glory with a tear in our eyes.

Then Jeff gets bold by pitching a sequel to the 1984 film Red Dawn that takes a look at how the next generation deals with the threat of infiltration by outside forces in the re-organized United States of America.

Adam follows it up with a prequel film to the 1996 blockbuster Independence Day, exploring the first encounter with the aliens who abducted Randy Quaid’s character and inspired his heroic kamikaze mission.

Finally, Jeramy gives a surprise pitch for a film about a mysterious presidential candidate that you won’t see coming.

So light up some fireworks and celebrate your liberty with SequelQuest episode 80. Don’t worry, we’ll save you a plate of potato salad.

BONUS EP8 | Super Mario Brothers Movie Interview | SequelQuest

BONUS EP8 | Super Mario Brothers Movie Interview | SequelQuest

At the time of its release, the Super Mario Bros live action film starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo did not have many fans, but over the last decade that has changed, thanks in large part to the website smbmovie.com.

As the most comprehensive source on the internet for information regarding the 1993 Super Mario Bros live action film, this website run by Ryan Hoss and Steven Applebaum has managed to tell the real story behind the making of the film.

Since the SequelQuest crew recently spent some time pitching sequels, prequels and reboots to Super Mario Bros movie we decided to have Ryan and Steven on for a special bonus episode to help us dig even deeper into the fungus of their fandom.

Many amazing stories were shared from their interactions with the cast and crew, toys and merchandise and even their own work in creating a sequel comic book with one of the original screenwriters. So listen to the fun now and be sure to check our Super Mario Bros 2 episode.

We thank Ryan and Steven for their time and invite you to visit www.smbmovie.com and http://www.smbthecomic.com/ to see their work.
